LAST HIKE: August 11
It was another beautiful day in northern Wisconsin with low humidity. 33 hikers including 5 guests gathered at the Yoder's home south of Hayward and hiked the trails through the woods on their property. There were several hills for those hiking 4 miles so we got our workout! Diane's husband also displayed many eye-catching signs throughout the woods for our entertainment. After the hike, we set up our chairs in their yard and enjoyed the property, good conversation, our lunches and the many treats. Thank you to Diane Yoder and Kym Kirk for hosting this week!
NEXT HIKE: Aug. 18 at 9:30 am (announcements begin at 9:15 am)
Sponsors: Jennifer Prinz and her visiting sister, Anne Prinz
Location: Welcome to Rice Lake, WI! We will be hiking along the Red Cedar River on a section of the Rice Lake Trail System starting near Adventures Restaurant & Pub, 2901 College Drive Rice Lake WI 54868
Hike: Asphalt trail along the beautiful Red Cedar River. Just a few slight little hills – nothing major. Can go as far as you like! If you make it to the bridge over the river and walk over it and back to the parking lot – that is 3 miles. If you walk all the way to Allen Street and back, that will roughly be 4 miles. Be sure to bring bug spray as it can get buggy down by the river.
Kayaking Rice Lake: Jennifer will not be able to go, but don’t let that stop you for enjoying this beautiful calm lake! You can enjoy the lake's 900 acres, explore its bays and even paddle the shoreline for a relaxing experience. The lake is known for its wildlife viewing, including birds in the connected wetlands. We have a kayak launch is just off of downtown Rice Lake across from City Hall on Lakeshore Drive at 30 E. Eau Claire St. Rice Lake, WI.
Don’t have a kayak or can’t bring your own? The Rice Lake Public Library has kayaks you can check out for free! More information can be found here: https://www.rlpl.org/home
After hike/lunch: Enjoy the downtown and shops in the “big city”! Jennifer will have coupons for locally owned shops!
Bathrooms: There are several area Kwik Trips: off of Hwy 53 and Hwy O at 2851 Decker Dr, Rice Lake, WI or at 1821 S Main St, Rice Lake, WI that can be used prior to the hike. Adventures will be open at 10:45 with a restroom for us to use after the hike and to start our lunch.
Lunch: Adventures Restaurant. $25 will cover an entree, iced tea, lemonade, pop, and tip. Please choose one of the following when registering if you’re staying for lunch:
• Chicken Caesar Salad
